My free-breathing weekend
Just spent 3 days with 2 sisters, Bub and Kathy, at the Rocky Mountain Womens Retreat just outside Winter Park, Colorado. We "ate up" 3 yummy days with about 40 other LDS women talking, eating, talking, eating, talking, eating and talking. Claudia Bushman was guest; she talked about recording our lives and "speaking out" as LDS women. Amy Johnson, an organizer and old friend from Denver, asked me to sit on a panel of multi-generational women on the topic of feminism. It took guts, but felt worth it in the end. My sister Bub took fabulous notes so we can remember all the yummy comments longer than 1 week (my current rate); thanks Bub. A little hard to come home to little people needing me incessantly, but nice to be loved and missed all the same. Two favorite peices of the weekend: (1) A good long discussion with 10-15 women encompassing thoughts and feelings about the temple; something I've desired for 15+ years, and (2) A sky-high ride on a old rusty swing while drinking in mountains and sky. I distinctly remember sitting in church 3 months back, thinking about this retreat, and getting a solid "yep, you should go" feeling from above: He was right.
